This original watercolor is inspired by the light reflected north of the harbor into Charleston from the vantage point of Shem Creek. The contrast of images captivated me as an evening sun filtered through the rigging, setting the ships aglow.

An evening trip through the Countryside of Chadd’s Ford, Pennsylvania brought me to this location as the setting sun and cool haze of the night established the pallet of this piece.

The drama of the race, as man battles man and the wind laughs. Having been in a few races myself, this piece tells many stories..!

The Schooner Race
( sold )
THE GREAT CHESAPEAKE BAY SCHOONER RACE has become a November tradition on the Bay. With over 40 historic schooners participating, it is a rare chance to step back in time and imagine oneself living in the age of sail. After a night in Fells Point, the race has its start in Annapolis and a finish at the Thimble Shoal Light off of Norfolk.

This painting originated in concept aboard the Schooner Mistress. It was my good fortune to have the pleasure of joining the crew of this vessel and experiencing the Bay as few have seen it.

The Chatham Light at Jamestown
21 1/2 x 15 1/4
Watercolor
A silent November sunset became the stage and created the palette, thus inspiring this painting of The Chatham Light on James head..
